Corporate Social Responsibility

Caring for Jordan

The Jordan Bromine Company (JBC) is the premier producer of bromine derivatives in the region, a pioneer of industry in Jordan. As an industrial leader we maintain a responsibility towards our community to create and implement socially responsible innovation. We are positioned to leave an indelible imprint on the overall well-being of our community and environment.

Our approach utilizes international best-practices that exceeds compliance standards. Our ethos commits us to the sustainable development of enterprise and community; as we believe financial growth is not mutually exclusive of community development.

We also practice what we preach, JBC annually provides small grants to local initiatives and projects to raise the quality of life in surrounding townships and neighborhoods. JBC is a stakeholder in local economic development, health service delivery, and education.

Our CSR ethos utilizes three pillars that informs our approach:

To support our CSR approach, we have created and mobilized a Community Advisory Panel (CAP) to initiate a synergistic relationship with community leaders; better informing our decisions on issues related to community development, the environment, as well as health and education. We believe it is imperative to understand the concerns of our local community members.

Our CSR Principles are Aligned with our CSR Goals

To Aid in our Social Accountability Goals

we have assembled a CSR (Committee of Representatives) who are responsible for the development of strategies, implementation of activities, and the assessment of reports to align our approach with effective action-plans.

Our CSR Activities

Through the integration of our CSR management system and Committee of Representatives we have developed an effective approach to designing and implementing sustainable community development projects; funding locally-driven social, cultural, and economic initiatives in Karak; particularly the communities of Qasaba, Ghor Safi and Ghor Mazra’a.

To ensure our activities generate maximum impact our implementation is informed by community needs assessments and evaluations.

Fursa Employability Initiative

Fursa is a Joint initiative between JBC and Knowledge Horizon that is focused on training and enhancing employability within the marketing and social media sector. Despite that this sector is rapidly growing in Jordan, we noticed a lack of well-trained and skilled local talent.

The Fursa initiative included a detailed analysis of the market needs and a 1-year training program targeting unemployed recent graduates in southern Jordan.

As a result of this program
544
Trainees attended an online soft skills training
70
Trainees attended classroom training
18
Trainees secured employment at the time of training completion

Building an Elementary School in Ghor Al Mazraa

Driven by our vision to elevate the communities within our areas of operations, we conducted extensive research to understand the root causes of some of the social issues faced locally, including school absenteeism. We realized one of the challenges faced by students in the Ghor Al Mazraa area, was the distance from schools. Students had to travel long distances to attend school, which negatively attended school attendance, especially among girls.

We embarked on the greatest developmental project in the area; the creation of the model school. Not only did JBC build the school the ground up through a 2.2 million JOD investment, we also remain actively involved in supporting the school, improving facilities, recognizing teachers, and incentivizing enrollment.

Tech Upskilling

At JBC, we believe that technological skills can create opportunities for employment and career development for many people. Therefore, throughout our years of operations, we have directly conducted, or supported through investments and scholarships, various initiatives that are focused on enhancing the technological skills and capabilities of the residents of our host communities.

These initiatives include

  • Donations to upgrade computer labs in local schools
  • Computers donations for a local vocational training center
  • Building a computer lab & providing PCs and equipment.
  • Providing 10 paid scholarships of RBK Program; which offers 18 weeks of training followed by employment opportunities for disadvantaged students.
  • The Fursa Employability Initiative
